Abstract:
Using iterative grounded theory methods, this study queried eight mental health professionals from a variety of Christian worldviews about how they integrate mindfulness-based psychological interventions into their work with conservative, evangelical Christians. The results of this study suggested that mindfulness-based interventions can be used effectively with conservative Christians. Three approaches were distinguished in how to employ mindfulness-based interventions with conservative Christians: (a) meditative approaches that acknowledge God, (b) mindful approaches that encourage relational meaning, and (c) mental/visual imagery that stimulates reasoning, perception, and awareness. These findings were linked to approaches for developing spiritually multicultural awareness within both theological and non-theistic mental health training programs.
